Everyone on board the plane is confirmed to have d!ed
In a statement, Philadelphia mayor Cherelle Parker said: “A devastating plane crash occurred in Northeast Philadelphia near Roosevelt Mall at Cottman and Bustleton Avenues on Friday evening, January 31, 2025, at approximately 6:10 pm.
The aircraft, a private Learjet 55 used for medical transportation, had departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport with two passengers—a mother and her daughter—along with four crew members. Tragically, all six on board perished in the crash.
Given the severity of the incident, in which the aircraft erupted into a fireball upon impact, officials had anticipated casualties. Footage of the scene confirmed the violent nature of the crash.
Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, the operator of the aircraft, had initially stated: “We cannot confirm any survivors.” A spokesperson later added, “When an incident like this happens, it’s both shocking and tragic. All of our aircraft are meticulously maintained, with no expense spared, as we understand the critical nature of our mission.”
The flight was transporting a young child back home to Mexico after receiving treatment for a life-threatening condition, with her mother accompanying her.
All six individuals on board, including both passengers and crew, were Mexican nationals.
The crash occurred approximately 30 seconds after takeoff, bringing the aircraft down onto a city street, damaging nearby buildings and vehicles.
Mayor Parker reported that multiple people on the ground, including those in parking lots, on streets, and inside cars and homes, were injured. However, the exact number of those affected remains unclear. At least six individuals were taken to the hospital, with three later discharged, though the full extent of injuries has yet to be confirmed.
The air ambulance had been scheduled to travel first to Missouri before continuing to Tijuana, where the mother and child were returning home. Instead, the tragic accident claimed at least six lives.
According to CNN, air traffic controllers were asked by another pilot about the situation and responded that they had “lost an aircraft.” Amid the initial confusion, they stated, “We’re not exactly sure what happened, so we’re trying to figure it out for now.”
