A single mother lost everything she owned after her air fryer exploded and ignited a fire that consumed her home.
Angel Carpenter, 23, initially thought it was a joke when she received a call to say her house was on fire at around 11 am on January 24.
Upon returning, she found her home completely destroyed, along with all her furniture, and her 15-month-old daughter Frankie’s clothes and toys.
Shocking images captured in the aftermath reveal the devastating damage caused by the blaze.
In the kitchen, the oven is covered in ash, and the wallpaper is so badly charred that it is peeling off. The living room has a massive hole in the wall, and a door can be seen lying on the floor after being burned off its hinges.
Firefighters from Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock informed Angel that the fire was likely caused by an electrical fault, which led to the explosion of the air fryer and two aerosols.
The fire also caused the water pipes to burst, which ultimately helped to extinguish the flames.
Now, Angel’s mother, Emma Carpenter, 43, is hoping to raise £4,500 to help refurnish her daughter’s home.
Angel, an administrative worker from Bridgnorth, Shropshire, said, “They said it was something to do with a plug socket or possibly a faulty air fryer. So much had melted that they couldn’t determine the exact cause. Everything I worked for was in that house.”
“It was such a sh0ck. I cried for ten hours. It broke me. I have lost everything in that house.”
Angel was at work when a neighbor called to inform her that her house was on fire. Her daughter, Frankie, was being looked after by Emma at the time.
She recalled, “They said, ‘Your house is on fire.’
“I thought it was a joke. I never expected this. I always double-check that everything is turned off.”
By the time Angel arrived, Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock fire services had already extinguished the fire.
She managed to retrieve some clothes from the house, but they still reek of smoke.
“Even after four washes, we still haven’t been able to get rid of the smell,” Angel said.
“We were able to salvage some photos from their frames and a few of her first birthday cards. I plan to laminate them.”
Unfortunately, Angel did not have home insurance and is currently living with her mother, Emma, until she can rebuild and refurnish her home.
She admitted, “I should have taken out fire insurance or home insurance. You just don’t think about it. It doesn’t feel real. It feels like a bad dream.”
Angel is incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed to the fundraiser.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has not yet determined the official cause of the fire.
A spokesperson for the fire service stated, “At 11:17 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a house fire in Bridgnorth.
“Two fire appliances were mobilized from Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock. An Operations Officer was also in attendance.
“Fire crews used two hose reel jets, a covering jet, a ventilation fan, and four breathing apparatus. They also isolated the solar panels, gas, and electricity.”
